I am working on a 46 J3 cub with original wood spars and looking for suggestion/opinions about replacing them. Is it necessary if they are not damage but old. I have heard stories about old growth wood better (stronger) than the new growth wood. It's allot more work and another major expense but these spars are 74 years old.

Any thoughts on how to repair the area below the bolt hole.
