Guys,

A friend sent this link to me and it clearly show the differences between the early QMS shade #41 and 43 vs the ANA shades 613 and 603.

http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/tnt1/101-200/tnt187-painting-Rapasi/00.shtm

QMS 41 olive drab and QMS 43 neutral gray were in use in 1940 and 1941 but were later replaced by ANA olive drab # 613 and ANA gray 603.

QMS 41 and ANA 613 were supposed to be the same (as evidenced by their makeup) but they were different paints and #41 dried lighter and faded more to a brown tone while # 613 dried darker and faded more to a green tone. ANA gray # 603 was much darker than the early QMS 43 but large stockpiles of #43 existed and the lighter #43 was used all the way to 1944 alongside the newer and darker #603.

Differences in manufacture of the dopes along with fading due to time in service produced many different shades of Olive Drab among aircraft in the same units.

Here are a couple of shots of the early QMS 41.

Best Regards,
Steve
