I was fortunate enough to find and purchase my grandfathers 1946 J-3 cub.

It was disassembled, but relatively intact and complete.

I'm in the process of putting her back together and I'm having some trouble with the tail wheel.

There are three pieces of flat steel that go from the tailwheel (maule) to the tail of the plane. There is a u-shaped clamp that bolts these pieces to the tail (along with the other attachment point).

When I use the bolts that came with the plane they are bottoming out before the clamp is tight. I could of course use shorter bolts, but I'm concerned that I'm missing a spacer/gasket/something that should go in the clamp as well.

Unfortunately the drawings I have are in really poor shape for this particular piece.

If anyone knows what (if anything) I need I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

-Dan
