My airplane is in for annual and I had them check on my slipping elevator trim. I gave the mechs some rosin to put on the cable and while they were checking the rear pulley they found some grease on it. In the process of cleaning off the grease, they discovered the cable is unravelling at the splice. It's been slipping since I got the airplane and the tensioner is pulled up really tight. It may be that the pulleys are really worn and the cable is just stretched.
So I have a couple of questions.
1) Are they going to have to cut a hole in my fuselage fabric to get the front pulley off to change the cable?
2) Should I replace the front and rear pulleys in that case?
3) Can you get new trim knobs?
4) Is there anything we should check on the jack screw to be sure it doesn't have a problem?
5) Anybody know if there are detailed instructions any where on how to replace the cable?
6) Should the splice be going around the jack screw pulley?
