This from 9th Army Artillery Air Section daily journal:

"December 1
(4) Major Smith, Arty Air Officer at XIII Corps, reported major damage to 44-80061 (76-D) of the 102nd Inf Div at the Corps strip (used by the 102nd Div as a forward strip). A pilot and observer were in the L-4 which was still on the ground with its engine running ready to take off when enemy aircraft began to strafe the strip. In evacuating the aircraft, one of the occupants knocked the throttle forward. The unoccupied aircraft took off down the field, crashing at the end of it. No casualties."
