Our L-4B is almost back in service after a mishap in April. One final touch was to paint on all the stenciling that we never got around to during the previous rebuild. Our restoration guy called today and said he advises against trying to paint polyurethane over polyurethane. He says that the stencil paint won't stick to the existing Superflite finish, and that there is no good way to roughen up the areas to be stenciled w/o it looking awful. So, I told him to just hold off for now.
Any suggestions for painting our stencils over the existing Superflite? I don't want to go through all the trouble just to have the paint peel off in a few months or years.
