I am new to the J3 and new to float flying and trying to refine my takeoff performance (time off the water). I am flying a C85-12F with McCauley 71/42 prop and EDO 1400s. I generally fly from the back seat solo and with passenger. I have a few questions related to the stab trim setting for takeoff.

Is there a setting on the stab trim that minimizes drag thereby increases take off performance? Where should should the trim be set during takeoff, for the sweet spot on the step, for level flight, for a climb out speed or any other setting?

Any performance tips or advice to minimize takeoff time would be appreciated,

Jack
