I was asked an interesting question by a young A&P today that works at the local FBO. He noticed that my L-4 prop was positioned at the 45 degree top blade position. He said that he was told at his flight training college that the blades should be left in the horizontal position because if left vertical or at a 45 degree position, the bottom blade would get out of balance due to moisture collection if left for long periods. I am still learning about Cubs and I had never heard that. Their planes are modern (Diamond Katanas). He said the blades are wooden with composite cover. He said some pilots have complained about vibration after the plane sat for a long period with a horizontal blade.

I told him I would post something on the Cub Forum and see what the advanced aged pilots that fly Cubs had to say.
