I'm sure this is an old and dear question. It seems in my minimum research that plexiglass should be a thing of history as Lexan is more flexible and less prone to hazing crack growth, etc. I am replacing all of the windows on 55100 and think that the lexan or acrylic is the better stuff.

Please let me know the experience you all have in this regard. Meanwhile, I'll do some more searching. I wouldn't think the switch from plexi would be an faa certification issue. But then much of my thinking on 55100 has been corrected by research and you folks out there.
