I thought this deserved a thread of its own.
Folks have talked about the larger engines burning more fuel than a 65, so I thought I'd pass along a pilot report from yesterday, giving fuel burn for the O200 on a J3, running a 7142 prop.

Storm arrived about 20 minutes after we did. Took 2 hour and 55 minutes flying time. Ran engine at 2350 and burned 6.4 gallons in 1.5 hours when we stopped to get fuel in Newport. That included climbing up to 3500 feet.

2350 rpm gives 80-81 mph cruise, which is much the same as cruise with a 65.
6.4 gallons in 1.5 hours is 4.27 gph, including takeoff and climb from 310 MSL to 3500 MSL. That's not much different from a 65.
