Some background....I've been flying for 3 years and have almost 150 hours in a C172. My dad flew mostly taildraggers in the 60's and 70's and I was in the Navy and Navy Reserves for 20 years working with Avionics on EA6B Prowlers and F14's, so between the two of us, we've been around aircraft in some fashion for 50 years.
My dad came across a 1941 J3. It was in the process of being restored and is now sitting in a garage in pieces with a pickeled 65 hp engine. I'm going to see it on Friday and I do not know the condition of the "pieces" or missing parts.
1. What are the 10 most important questions I should ask and/or things I should look for?
2. As a baseline....If all parts are present and just needing to be reassembled and covered/painted, how many man hours does it take to complete the restoration?
3. Of some of the modifications I've noticed (metal spar, wing tank, etc) what should I consider doing?
Thank you,
DanoAir
