There has been a lot of discussion over the past year about the forthcoming lower weight 0-200 engine, including the statement that for some period the production will all go to Cessna. It now appears that the engine is available, and not just to Cessna. The following is extracted from today's Legend Aircraft press release:
"American Legend Aircraft Company announced today that it has selected the lighter weight O-200-D engine from supplier Teledyne-Continental Motors (TCM) of Mobile, Alabama, to power future models of the Legend Cub light-sport aircraft. American Legend completed and flew its first aircraft with the O-200-D model and will display this aircraft at Sun 'n Fun Fly-In 2009.
American Legend Aircraft Company has utilized the 100-horsepower Continental O-200 reciprocating engine in the Legend Cub since the aircraft was introduced in March 2005. Over 150 of the currently flying 170 Legend Cubs and Texas Sport CUBs are powered by the O-200. The new O-200-D lightweight engine will give the Legend Cub an increase in useful load of 15 lbs." "These aircraft will come standard with a Sensenich ground adjustable composite propeller."
"The O-200 is a proven member of Continental's family of horizontally-opposed piston engines. The new O-200-D lightweight features a dry weight of 199 lbs. Its four 50-cubic-inch cylinders deliver true 100-horsepower at 2,750 RPM normal cruise. This engine has been successfully flown for over 70 years on a wide variety of light aircraft including the Cessna 150 and Piper PA-18-90 (and L-18B) Super Cub."
This is just posted as a matter of (I hope) general interest. I am not selling Continental or Legend products!
