I'm buying one of Ken Wilson's excellent cowling data block stencils (Thanks, AOP!).

While working with Ken, the question came up as to whether the block should say "AIR FORCE" or "AIR FORCES", keeping in mind that the aircraft was delivered 5-28-43. I believe that the scan below should answer the question. It's from Piper Aircraft Corp. L-4A Fuselage Assembly Drawing No. 23806 dated 1-15-43. I used this set of drawings in marking my aircraft.

I understand that this was the only factory applied external stencil other than the fuel markings, also on the boot cowl. There have been other external stencils observed, but as I understand it these were applied by the using units. I have found no drawings that mention these markings.
