Jury strut

Installing new univair jury struts, clamps and lugs. Everything fits perfect except the cross bar on the right wing. Bolt holes come up about 1/4 inch short. Book says to adjust the clamp to avoid strut bending but I can find no way to adjust this clamp because it is the shape of the strut. I tried washers on the rear clamp to move the lug forward but then the clamp will not tighten up on the strut. I know this is a simple fix but I am yet to find it. Any suggestions would be helpful.
