Finally getting round to installing NFS 9:1 pistons in my O-200 experimental cub clone.

Had 8 old +.15 cylinders that engine shop checked and chose the best 4. Was honed, exhaust ports refaced, rockers re profiled etc. Pistons were gapped and matched to the cylinders.

So this week the plan is to take these refurbished cylinders with high compression pistons to my AME so that they can pull old cylinders and pistons and install this ‘new’ set.

Engine shop mentioned that installing high compression pistons in old cylinders might lead to cracking of cylinders and that new cylinders should rather be used.

My question is, are most installations of high compression pistons not in old / current cylinders? What are your experiences of doing what I am about to do? I can understand that using new cylinders would probably always be preferable, but is this what mostly gets done?
