Hi,

For a long time, I had in the back of my mind that it might be possible to use an AN-29-C antenna for a handheld radio. The problem is that the bloody antenna is for an HF band and we communicate on the VHF band. The HF antenna is way too long for a quarter wave. I finally asked the local avionics shop guru to see if he could work his majic on my BC-659 setup and make it work with the ICOM handheld. He got it done. Haven't had a chance to fly with it yet, but will be going to a flyin Sunday afternoon.

It's a small, unobtrusive setup, it attaches to the back side of the BC-659 in the box where the antenna screws in. He drilled a hole in the side of that box in order to attach the BNC fitting. I will be attaching and de attaching the cable for shows and that should be secure.

I asked him what he would charge to make them up as a kit, and he said around $100. Assuming this works, would any of you L-4 drivers out there be interested?
