I had a freshly built C-85-8 installed in my L-4 and have been fighting oil leaks from the get go. Most were fixed but still have one or two that are driving us crazy. We clean the engine and cowlings and fly around the pattern for about 20 minutes. Come back and check, no leaks. Fly it home which was about a 40 minute flight and there is an oil leak. There is oil like spray inside the top cowling. Most of the oil looks like it is coming from the left side of the engine.

Is there dye that can be added under UV light or black light to see where the oil is coming from? I know race car engine builders use something like that.

The oil leak is not excessive but enough to get the engine and cowls nasty.
