I continued to remove some of the white paint this morning and found some areas of the cowling had multiple layers of Olive Drab paint. The bottom layer of paint appears to be lacquer or enamel with a a thin coating of yellow green chromate underneath. The top layer of OD is a lighter green Olive Drab and was applied directly over the previous Olive Drab with no additional primer. The hastily applied white enamel was simply sprayed on top of the Olive drab. When the cowling was sprayed white they did not remove the oil access door and it was still completely Olive Drab underneath.

The bottom and earliest layer is much darker and more brown than the 2nd and in some cases third Olive Drab coating which are more green. I believe the very dark Olive Drab is the original factory color. In some cases the 2nd coat of Olive Drab peeled off along with the white enamel leaving the darker OD exposed.
