I recently made a one item purchase at AS for about $45 and was given the plus shipping charges. When I got my Discover Card bill, there were two charges. The one I had expected and an additional charge for $1. After calling and emailing a compliant, I found out that they charge your card once with their "estimated freight" and them when they shipped it, the cost was $0.86 more than the first charge. Since Discover and American Express have a minimum charge of $1, then I had a charge of $1 so they could get an additional $0.86.
However, if they have overestimated the freight charge by less that $1, they do not issue a credit since it would cost them $1.
Have you had this happen to you? Do any other vendors have a similar process? What do you think of this way of doing business?
