Tracking L-bird history

I've searched for the answer here, but haven't found anything substantial yet. Does anyone know a good place to search for the military history of an L-bird? I've found one and it has history all the way back to the bill of sale from the military to an individual in 1945. I'd like to find out its history while it was still a military bird.
