I have literally thousand of hours in Cubs, J-3, PA-11 and PA-18's, but haven't flown one in about 10 years.
The other day I had a chance to fly a J-3. I'm 6 ft and 220 lbs.
I was really scrunched in the front seat, so much that my feet were pointed outward at about a 45 degree angle. At this angle, when ever I moved the rudder pedals, my heals would end up pushing the brakes, not a good situation. I know J-3's are tight in the front, but don't remember them being this tight. I forget to look to see if the rudder pedals were pulled back because of to short of a rod/cable from the back pedals to the front pedals. After the flight, I got in the back seat, and I could barely get my feet on the rudder pedals, there just wasn't enough room between the seat the rudder cables. I just measured the soles of my shoes and they are about 4 3/4 inches wide at the widest point. I don't ever remember it being this tight. I know the back rudder pedals can be modified to give a little more room.
Has anyone modified the front seat to give a little more room?
I don't remember Cubs being quite this tight, is it me (68 years old) or ?? Comments? Thanks
