Here I am stirring the pot again. I am getting ready to build a C-85-8 to put on my L-4B and will need a new wood prop to go with it. I have read just about all the past posts about wood props. No I am not interested in putting a metal prop on my L-4 so don't bother trying to change my mind. I have read the TCDS and it lists all sorts of metal props and then at the bottom of the list is says the following:
101. Propeller - Wood (fixed or adjustable pitch). +9 lb. (-51)
There is no mention of a manufacturer. Is it ok to put on a wood prop from another manufacturer as long as it conforms to the propeller dimensions that is prescribed for the particular engine that is going on the plane? The reason I ask is that I met the fellow that bought Clark Kydick's propeller business (now called Performance Propellers USA) at a EAA function and he was very knowledgeable about building wood props. He had some samples and they looked real good. I asked him about the legality of putting one of his props on a Cub and he said that the TCDS says what I mentioned above. Therefore he thinks it is legal.
So what do you all think? This ought to get this thread going tonight.
