rudder pedals

Can anyone help me identify the difference between the front and rear rudder pedals. I got a box of rudder pedals with my project and I don't know if they are even off a J-3 or a PA-18 or if there's a difference. I painted up the best looking ones and have noticed that 1 of the four is 1/4 inch shorter. Could this be the rear one? front one? Giant jig saw puzzle, appreciate some insight.
