Piper L-4 Airbox new manufacture
In the past few months I have been working on the Piper L-4 airbox reproduction to make a new ones. I have done all the reverse engineering in CAD using the original airbox as a pattern and got the parts CNC laser cut, bent and TIG welded.
Now the first prototype is almost finished. It is made from 0,8mm thick AISI 1020 sheet steel. The flap mechanism is completely removable for better assembly – this is the only difference, otherwise it is the same as original Airbox.
We have some capacity to make a limited run of new air boxes if there will be interest.
Estimated price depending on supplier would be around 400-425 EUR for set containing:
- New Airbox, painted with two component black color
- Front support bracket
- Spacer between Airbox and carburetor
- Elbow tube for hot air intake
The parts are not PMA approved.

These parts are getting harder and harder to find.
We are also considering to manufacture new air filters, but I am missing original one for reverse engineering. If anyone has an original Airmaze filter for sale or trade let me know.
