Yep - Proud owner of a piece of a J-4. Very nice airplane. Here is the quiz:
In 1992 they installed a Witte wing tank, citing the J-3 STC. Should I ‘fess up and apply for a field approval? Or did Clarence or maybe Biplanes add the J-4? A 9 gallon tank is on the type certificate, perhaps easing the way for approval. A quarter century and many IAs ago . . .
In 2009 - a decade ago - they installed the Ward Aero wind generator, via 337, citing only Ward Aero instructions. Is that the same thing as item 315 Air Associates #GE20? If so, then only a log entry is needed, right?
In 2009,via four separate 337s, they installed com, transponder, encoder, and antenna. No data at all is listed on the 337 except for the antenna, which lists 43-13. I am inclined to ignore these, since they are, to me, minor alterations. Up for opinions.
And no CAM form 309 - anybody got data off an original? It does have instrument markings and signs all over that Studebaker instrument panel (also messed up with my CIGAR TIP checklist). They did have a seven page separate checklist and a 100 page Pilot Operating Handbook, but you can guess where all that went.
Anyway, great fun! It is “different!”
