I recently purchased another J-3 that was totally restored in 2007. The gentleman who restored the ship did an outstanding job. The logbooks are complete, detailed and indicate all AD compliance. Here is the problem: I am the second owner since restoration. I bought the aircraft from an individual who purchased it from the restorer and owned it for about two years and in that time only flew it for 35:00 hours. I recently obtained the FAA cd and in going through the records discovered that the left wing was rebuilt in 2010 (ground loop?), by a nationally known, west coast rebuilder/manufacturer. After completion of the work they filed a detailed 337 with FAA identifying the registration & serial number of the aircraft and sent the wing back to the owner. The problem is that there is no record of the removal/installation of the wing in the aircraft logbook. The person I bought the aircraft from refuses to address this issue. My concern is that the repair is an FAA recorded document that could be an issue should an accident/insurance situation occur. The IA i've worked with says that he is willing to sign the aircraft logbook with an entry indicating an inspection of the wing was accomplished. Is this sufficient to alleviate any further legal/liability issues? GUP
