We have a J3 that I'm getting ready to fly. I had a friend that flies cubs stop by and check it out as it has been a while since it flew. It only gets about 2000RPM on static run up and climb performance was pretty poor (200-300FPM). It was a hot day in FL but the pilot was lighter than I (170Lbs) and about 6 gal of fuel. The cub has a McCauley CM7443 prop. When I look at the A-691 it looks to me that the prop shouldn't be over 70 inches with an A-75-8 (if I'm reading this right). Could this be the problem? I see that 1950 is minimum static so is this (2000RPM) expected for this prop? If so, should I have it re-pitched to something lower to get better climb out of it?
