Yeah, you read that right. In.

I just about NEVER shut the hatch, but I did yesterday on my way to Paso Robles because I wanted to listen to some music (Thank you, Bose), and the wind kept activating the intercom. I can hear the old timers already... "back in my day wind was the only music I need!!" Save it. I dig U2 and Bono makes an OK co-pilot.

ANYWAY, on the descent I went to pop the door open... nothing. The handle just swiveled. Oh boy.

After landing, same thing. By the way, landing with the door shut when you never, EVER land with the door shut is just plain weird.

So, there I am on the ramp at Paso. My friend is waiting for me in the parking lot. I can't seem to find the EXIT in my Cub. So, I call her. "Hey. I'm locked in my plane. No joke."

She shows up to the Cub just as I am crawling out of the little left side window (and managed to crack the brand new plexi).

Like a champ, she helped me unhook the door from the outside, remove it, and reattach it in the open position. Then, she climbed in and went flying with me. Total trooper.

It's funny now, but I was pretty upset/embarrassed at the time. I know this must have happened to someone else at some point.

The short version: I just found the millionth reason to never close a door in a Cub.

Its new home is gonna be on the hangar wall.

Bad, door! Bad!
