We are having spectacular luck with the old IC-A20. We plug in external power, and it is good for almost a month of daily flying. The IC-A22, or at least the ones we have tried, have serious squelch problems. The A-6 seems to be OK, although it takes a genius to figure it out.

My question is - has anybody tried to plug the A6 or its A23 cousin in to an aircraft battery? The input port is a non-standard size, and is labeled "11 volts". The factory rep says I cannot plug anything in there except their proprietary cigar lighter cord, which has some extra boxes on it. He refuses to say exactly what the voltage tolerance is at the input port. All the other portable thingies, including most Icom portables, Sigtronics intercoms, and others, take the standard type M power plug, and are able to accept power from our huge collection of 12 volt 7 AH gel cells.

I realize this is a pretty technical question, but I think this is a pretty savvy group, and somebody here surely uses the A6 in a Cub? Thanks for any help . . .
