Hi Everyone,
I am new to the group and I am interested in maybe buying a J-3 or a PA-11. I have about 10-15 hours of J-3 time and about 130 in other tailwheel stuff (Champ, Swift, Citabria and Maule). I have a total of about 200 hours. I was wondering about flying cross country in a J-3 from the rear seat. Do most people use a hand held radio? What about navigation? Charts and Compass or can you get a decent GPS signal from the rear seat? I got my tailwheel check out in a J-3 plus a couple of hours more hours flying in the local area. I know that Cub owners fly all over the country and I was just wondering what the preferred method of navigation from the rear seat. Of course flying an airplane from the front you can grab a chart, sit the GPS on top of the panel and go. I have always had an affection for the J-3. Your comments and suggestions would be most appreciated.
