Guys,

When the 3 teeth broke off my crank gear last month, the obviously hit a couple things on the way down to the sump. Nothing was found abnormal in the oil pump, the remote oil filter was clean except for normal break in shavings expected.

However, one of the mag gear/teeth has some slight nicks which looks like maybe the wayward crank gear teeth nicked it on the way out. My IA wants to replace both mag gears to be safe, and while I normally lean to the side of caution, I'm not too excited about spending $1,300 on new mag gears on a $1,600 set of mags that have 16 hours SNEW on them.

What is the criteria; and is the issue with surface nicks on the teeth, or that debris may have damaged the rotation of the gears? Here's a new one for me and don't laugh...do the mags have to be re-timed if you remove and replace the same components?

Mike-
