Attached is a picture of an Australian pilot in New Guinea during WWII with an L-4. The pilot's family has asked the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Museum at Point Cook for any additional information on this particular aircraft. This request was passed to me.

Over the years I have spoken with several RAAF 4 Squadron pilots who flew Piper Cubs in New Guinea. They all have fond memories of the Cub but it seems that there is no official record of the aircraft serving with the RAAF. The attached picture clearly shows RAAF markings. One story is that the Australians traded beer for four Cubs and that all four were lost along with other aircraft in a fire that swept the airfield.

Does anyone else have information or pictures on Australian Piper Cub operations during WWII?

Does anyone recognise the aircraft in the attached photo?

Thanks for your help
