I know its a subject beat to death elsewhere, but a very specific question:
From around 1948-1950 Piper was putting data plates in the back of the fuselage, wired to one of the tubes....I guess the thinking was that in an accident, the plate was likely to survive well back on the fuselage.
Anyhow, the plates they were using at that time were not the one's usually seen reproduced nowadays. The 48-50 (ish) plates had "PIPER AIRCRAFT CORP." on top, then "MODEL" on the left and "SERIAL" on the right just under. Under those were "T.C" and "P.C." blanks. And under that was "MFG DATE" blank (shorter than the more common, longer blanks for that. I believe the part number is 85411 (??)
A friend has a Vagabond, and I have a Clipper. Both of us have original tags but we are thinking about doing repros to actually put back in the original place Piper had them way in back on one of the tubes.
Anybody know where to get of of these less common plate blanks?
