keep your eyes peeled. The FAA is looking at stainless turnbuckle ends that are swaged on to cables, but shows a photo of a typical Cub turnbuckle. They are thinking about an annual removal of safety wire, followed by a 10x magnification check.
This is a really good idea on a Cub when adjustments are made or corrosion seems to be appearing, but unwrapping at each annual might be a bit of overkill. I count ten turnbuckles at 20 minutes each for a young guy with good hands. That's over three hours extra, or about $400 added to your average J3 annual.
That, plus the stress that is placed on these small parts when removing and re-wrapping safety wire is probably more than the purely axial stress of flight control movement.
But do check those clevis bolts now and then - they tend to go half-moon shape, even if you lube them every 25 hours (most don't).
