We lose them because the baggage lid got stored in the back of the hangar when the hopper was installed. I just pulled the floorboards in my Decathlon, and started to pitch the rugs. Ugh. The data plate was still screwed to the rug! Lucky save.

So I checked a similar aircraft in work in a real shop. Asked the mechanics about the tag - answer - we didn’t pull the rug out. No idea where the tag is. Ulp.

There needs to be an inexpensive, easy way to fix this. Yes, I have a secret weapon at the FSDO, but what if he retires/gets scared?

All of my airplanes have tags - one with FSDO letter, the others original. Not my fight. But geez- how about an enlightened approach?
