Reading through threads here about the Lang D-501A tailwheel assembly.

Currently have an original Scott 3000 on my PA-17 Vag with 1150lb gross weight and want to install a new tailwheel assembly. The Scott 3000 6" tire works fine on turf strips where I fly.

The Lang unit is FAA/PMA approved. It weighs 6lbs with a 6" tire, same as the Scott 3000 tailwheel assembly. Cannot find an STC for the PA-17 yet and I'm not an A&P. Can this unit be installed under AC-23-27?

Appreciate your replies,
