I know how ya'll like pics so here's a few more for ya. I repaired the broken piece of U channel in the L4/J3 today. The first pic shows preperation for chemical strip of dope around the area of the hole I will cut to allow room to weld in the new piece. I DID NOT use paint stripper!! It takes a little more work but if your patient its not to bad to use dope thinner or MEK.....MEK works much faster and will not damage the fabric like stripper but make sure you are in a well vented area...wear your mask and gloves because an hour or two with that stuff will scramble your squash and make all your babies and grandbabies be born naked!!
The next pic shows the outline for my hole is stripped and I'm ready to cut...then you see the big ass hole I had to make just to have enough room to safely use the torch. The last couple of pics show the completed repair and I'm now ready to start my fabric patch(after a little more cleaning)....no that is not a big bump at the back end of the repaired spot, its just the way the chafe tape is laying and makes it look that way. I meant to get a couple shots of the welded piece before I covered it with chafe tape but my camara battery died and I had to put it on charge.
Feel free to criticize if ya like....I know its not a perfect job but it's a safe and legal repair....and once the fabric is on you won't know the difference except for the extra tape lines around the fabric patch and probably a little brighter colored dope in that area.
On another note, if you look at some of the pics just right you can see where the holes are still there to mount the glass in the L4 green house....it also still has all the tabs for the extended hat rack area.
