Guys,

We flew G-FINT the other day on its official CAA test flight and while all was well with the aircraft, they were not happy with the take-off distance. They did all their sums based on the 1943 POH, temp, wind speed etc (all with GPS units in board), so they probably have correct on the figures, but I have some take-off data question for you.

1. Is the clime speed and take-off data in the Piper Pilot's Handbook (POH) based on a Sensenich W72CK cruse pitch prop (42) or climb pitch (44) prop?
If this data is based on the climb prop, are there official figures for the standard 42 pitch prop?

2. Why does the heavier L-4H seem to have better T/O performance (compared to the L-4A/B) despite the extra 50 lb MTOW?

Ground run for the L-4A/B (1,170 lb MTOW) is 347ft and to clear a 50ft obstacel is 894ft - on grass
Ground run for the L-4H (1,220 lb MTOW) is 352ft and to clear a 50ft obstacel is 737ft - on grass

3. The best indicated speed for the climb is noted as 60 MPH in the POH data sheets, but earlier in the POH the climb speed is given as 55MPH!
What is the correct climb speed for a MTOW L-4 operating at 1,200 lb?

Thanks for your wisdom.

Joe
