found an interesting picture of the Navy's trials with blimps in 1945 were they carried the Cub "Glimpy" and as I understand it did testflights with airborne releases but no airborne recoveries from what I know. I guess the Brodie device beeing an Army invention wasn't likely to be used by the Navy? Check upper picture on p 90 in this preview:
