Well, the wife (Miss Dee) is beginning to feel a lot more comfortable in her Legend Cub, so it's probably time to expand her horizons with a "road trip." California will be the first X-C victim enroute to the north Cascades of Washington and the rest of our combined families...lucky them!
I've pretty much lost my white-knuckle grip on her seat-back while trying to "fly" the plane (as her IP) from the rear cockpit by wrenching it left, right, back and forth, etc. It's an instinctive instructor reaction, I'm told, kinda like trying to put some English or backspin on the thing rather than utilizing the far more advanced tailwheel instructional technique of using Jedi mind-control tricks. I haven't got to that chapter just yet...but I digress.
Our first overnight out of the Phoenix area will be one of our favorites, at Harris Ranch (308) near Coalinga, but we're quite unfamiliar with what might be "recommended" fuel/rest stops heading north along I-5 through the central valley of CA and into southern Oregon.
If anyone familiar with this area/route would care to offer some tips on Cub-friendly fuel stops, or perhaps just as important, places to AVOID, along this "up-the-middle" route, I'd be happy to pay full attention!
Thank you...
