My brother Steve and I learned to fly as teens. We were both members of Kitty Hawk Squadron 3, based at Van Nuys, CA. In 2005, while documenting the squadron history and building a website, I put together a photo video. Our squadron began in 1951 with a J3 Cub, and followed with an Ercoupe, a Aeronca 7AC, a Cessna 150 and two Cessna 172s.

Members of the North Hollywood Optimist Club founded our squadron, and remain the squadron's primary sponsor today. Chief Flight Instructor Ralph Truglio began instructing our kids in 1955, and is still instructing with over 6,000 hours of donated instruction time.
