The irony of floats over a desert! But floats make a great ground-to-air pick up / transfer platform. I see the exhaust is modified to a bayonet type of stack.

Brings back memories of trying a pickup transfer in my Cub (on wheels) with a empty 5 gallon plastic gas can by snagging a rope across two poles on the ground, and then tried matching speeds with my buddies in my pickup truck. Harder than it looks, especially if you don't have a lot of room, like a tree lined 1800 ft strip.
