This started as a reply to the thread titled "Cirrus" below ...

The object of learning to fly, it seems to me, is learning to FLY. I started at a controlled field and it took me 9 hours in 1971 ... disappointing to me as I had long before read and thoroughly digested a book titled "8 Hours to Solo". Now, 40 years almost to the day after that first solo, with complication after complication entering the picture from airspace to aircraft to people with incomprehensible "social issues", I'm more into primary training and training for Sport Pilots; simple airplane, uncontrolled field, happy new pilots who enjoy going up and looking down. Some of these pilots will go on to be private/commercial/airline transport pilots but I'll send them somewhere else for that training.

The basics, the nuts and bolts of real airmanship, are so important and, I'm sorry to say, I'm not so sure most of today's new students are getting that. There are forum members who write like they have ideas similar to mine when it comes to developing new students into pilots. It's good to know that.
