After doing some searching on the forum, I still haven't found a good answer. After the switch from Nitrate to Butyrate it is well know that Piper had to stop the lightening bolt short of the boot cowl. My question is did all J3s built after the switch have the short stripe? And if not how how big was the rage of Cubs that did.

Base on some quick research we know that 'Barn Cub' s/n: 20304 built in October of 46 did.

s/n: 19138 built in August of 46, and donated to the Henry Ford Museum also had the short stripe. (see attached photo)

Both of these airplanes were built in Lock-Haven

So is it safe to assume that all Cubs built at Lock-Haven in between also had the short lightning bolt.

Regards,

James
