I have been trying to resolve an intermittent transmit problem with my radio setup. I have a David Clark headsets, JHP-520 and Sigtronics Transcom II. The transmission is received as a very faint sound. Sometimes it works fine, but I haven't been able to figure out what makes it work. I suspect its a bad cord in the Signtronics unit? However, I have done the following:

1) Reconditioned all the headsets from David Clark. They replaced the mics in all of the older ones. Didn't charge me anything since I walked in and they fixed them while I waited. The gel ears are great. I tried different headsets, and still have transmit problems.

2) Replace the antenna VHF-5T NAV/COM ANTENNA. Reception is great now. Still have transmit problems with both antennas.

3) Upgraded to shielded plugs/wires. Reception is great now at high rpm.

4) Upgraded to an iCOM radio, but still too much static to use it. I suspect I need shielded cable installed from the mag switch to mag. I might sell the iCOM. Their is no static on the JHP-520 radio at all. Must be better design. Bought new rechargeable battery pack for JHP-520 too.

5) Changed batteries in the Sigtronics unit. I have model SPO-22, but was considering buying the SPO-22N. Any recommendation?

6) Swapped out the push to talk switch.

7) Cleaned all the plug ends on the cables.

The only other items I haven't changed are the pig tail cables from the radio to the sigtronics cables and the sigtronics unit/cables. I doubt I can find a replacement cable for the JHP-520. I'll try bypassing the Sigtronics unit today to see if this makes a difference.

Its difficult to debug since I have to ask for radio checks all the time. Is there a frequency I can use for this purpose rather than home airport frequency?

Thanks!

Dave
