I know that the word "Speed" is not normally associated with the J3/L-4 aireoplane, but does anybody have any idea what one should use for Maneuvering Speed on such a bird?

I flew North across the ridge to Chambersberg, PA Sunday for a family get together, and coming home ran into some serious unscheduled winds on my tail. By Mr Garmin's little wonder, I was making 114 knots across the ground coming home. What had taken me 45 minutes going North, took me all of 18 minutes going home. Has anybody gone faster than that?

Not wanting to go any higher for such a short trip, I stayed about 1000 feet agl, but that got me into some very nasty turbulence near the top of the ridge, and I had no idea what I should do about stress. I slowed down to about 85 across the ground, which was about 60 on the dial. Obviously the wings stayed on, but it got me to wondering about those 75 year old 1 X 6 furring strips holding me up there!
