Years ago when we originally reassembled the airplane, my partner, who was an I/A, recommended that we leave the rigging the way it was and assume that it would be OK. The airplane flew fine and doesn't drop a wing in a stall, but it just didn't feel right to me. I never quite got around to checking it, but this annual, I wanted to. Turns out it's a good bit off. The distance from the top window to the string should be 2 3/8. and it's only 1 1/2.

My question is this- Do I have to drop the front struts completely off the airplane to lengthen them or can I disconnect the forks at the fuselage attachment point? I tried tapping the front strut fork forward but I can't get it to come off the attachment lug as there is a lip on the edge of the lug to keep it from doing that. I don't want to lift up on the wing tip and slide the fork off laterally, as that seems a very long distance without bending something else.

If you had to lengthen a front strut, how would you go about it? Thanks.
