Wood Spar to Aluminum Spar in J-3

I understand that Piper just changed from wood spar to aluminum spar in 1946. All that is required is a log book entry. Anyone used any aluminum wing kits lately. I build one from Wag a few years ago. It was ok but support was terrible.
