Qwner wanted to make sure the generator was working. I suppose I made a mistake by turning off the generator switch to make sure the indicating light was actually working. Apparently the reduced load caused the generator to overspeed and eat a bearing or something.
So, question: Is turning the generator switch off on a wind driven generator a no-no? What happens when the battery is fully charged and the field voltage is reduced to zero automatically? And should we have a shrapnel shield between our nuggets and that spinning thing down there?
