I have a Continental O-200 in an experimental cub. Along the same lines of the other thread on the oil screen, I got fed up with the oil screen removal process, so I bought the TAF-L engine mount oil filter adapter so that I can move to spin-on filters and have the option of installing an oil cooler later on (my cooling issues are documented in another thread).

So my question is, what is the reason for having to desolder the oil screen from the cap when an oil filter is installed? It is in the installation instructions of Tempest, but the reason is not given. Why would one not just leave it in place?
